Favorite Meal
Sitting with friends round the old oak table
drinking copious amounts of wine
dinner was Italian so the wine had to be red
the salad, filled with all my favorites — olives, anchovies, pepperoni
(even though I don’t eat beef)
ripe tomatoes, arugala
(because iceberg is a poor excuse for lettuce)
and lots of smoky Parmesan cheese
followed by eggplant Parmesan and lasagna
the cheese stretching across the room
crusty, warm garlic bread on the side
dessert had to be chocolate
anything dark chocolate
(because milk chocolate is a poor excuse for chocolate)
accompanied by a fine dessert wine.

and talk of philosophy
and life
